How to Beautify your Eyebrows

Eyebrows should compliment your face and accentuate your eyes, not attract attention to themselves. Eyebrows perform the very important function of preventing sweat running into the eyes. It also prevent debris such as dandruff and other small objects from falling into the eyes, as well as providing a more sensitive sense for detecting objects being near the eye, like small insects. Groom eyebrows regularly, using an eyebrow brush or dry, clean toothbrush. Brush first against the direction of growth to remove any loose hairs and flakes of skin, then brush back into shape.

To encourage growth and thickening, rub lanolin or any of the eyelash-stimulators into the brows each evening before bed. If your eyes are close set, removing a few extra hairs from the inner edge of the brows can give you a more wide-eyed appearance; otherwise, brows should begin directly above the inner eye corners. Besides plucking the stragglers under and between your eyebrows, you may want to adjust their eyebrow shape to conform to your facial structure. These simple steps you can have your perfect eyebrow shape.

Arched if your face is round.
Rounded if your face is heart shaped.
Slightly arched if your face is square or rectangular.
Straight if you have a long slender or oval face.

To eliminate tweezing discomfort when removing superfluous hairs, and to leave the vacated skin smooth and attractive:

  • Wipe your brows with an astringent-saturated cotton ball to remove any traces of oil.
  • Brush your brows the "wrong way" with an eyebrow brush or child's toothbrush to clear out any leftover makeup or flaky skin, then stroke them back into place.
  • For ouch less plucking: Press an ice cube over the area for a few seconds, blot with a tissue, then tweeze one hair at a time in the direction of hair growth.
  • Finish by again wiping the area with astringent, and then apply a moisturizer or a coating of honey. The honey not only softens the skin, but also acts as a natural bactericide.

Overly thick, bushy eyebrows (masculine or feminine) can be trimmed with manicure scissors or thinned with tweezers. To train your eyebrows and keep them in line: Start by brushing them straight up on your forehead, then coax them into the proper shape with the side of the eyebrow brush. Smoothing on a dab of petroleum jelly or hair-styling gel while brushing will help keep them in their place.
