Soothing Relief for Tired Eyes

The truth is, there is no special cream that will reduce puffiness around the eyes. But there is a remedy to counteract stressed-out eyes the cool eye compress. The cool temperature of the compress pressed against the eye area will help to soothe and refresh overworked eyes.

Step One: Making a Compress

Eye compresses can be made out of medical cotton or cotton pads, which can be found at your local pharmacy. If you don't want to use cotton, you can use folded terry washcloth.

Step Two: Preparing the Soothing Treatment

The compress can be made with a chilled solution of either a chamomile essential oil solution (two or three drops in six ounces of water), alcohol- and fragrance-free freshener for sensitive skin, or mineral water. Fill a small bowl with approximately one cup of compress solution, then place in the refrigerator to chill.

Step Three: Conditioning the Skin

Apply either an eye-care product or day moisturizer to your eye area. Be extremely gentle in your application.

Step Four: Applying the Compress

Place the cotton pad com¬presses or folded terry washcloth compress in the chilled solution. Wring out the excess liquid and apply directly to the eye area. When the eye compresses become warm, resaturate them in the solution and reapply. Repeat this procedure for 10 minutes or longer if you have the time.

If you don't have time to prepare homemade eye compresses, you can purchase a compress that is reusable. This eye compress can be found in most department stores and pharmacies and is not too expensive. You can keep this eye mask in the refrigerator or freezer.
